his first novel — no, really, it's finished
There's no such thing
as one you.
I write the stories I want to write, the way I want to write them.

The Variant War
The Variant War follows the operatives caught between two rival factions of interdimensional travelers — the disciplined Variants and the Archetypes patrolling the border they aren't allowed to cross — as a century-old secret, kept alive (literally) by a woman old enough to have written the rules, threatens to break the treaty holding their war in check. It's fast, darkly funny, and entirely uninterested in being anyone's idea of prestige science fiction. Which, frankly, is the point.

Untitled WIP Novel
Eleven generations after leaving Earth, the fleet has finally landed — and Harald, once a decorated ship's commander, now finds himself governing crop yields and captains' squabbles instead. His first colony-wide meeting spirals through half a dozen crises at once: a security chief running late, a scientist refusing to face a room of nervous captains alone, and a rival demanding it's time to wake the dozen Earth-born passengers who've slept through the entire voyage. Underneath the politics sits something more personal — old friendships starting to strain under new titles, and a fellow captain whose offer of partnership might be exactly what it sounds like, or something far more calculated.

about the author
Les Abernathy
Les Abernathy is the New New York Times Bestselling author of dozens of books. Or at least he will be if he ever gets determined enough to write them.
As of now, he has one finished book and two others that are halfway done to the point where he downright needs to finish them. The good news is they will probably release long before the next book in a certain fantasy series turned TV show.
He has no doctorate, has never been on anyone's top 100 lists, or has ever worked as a deckhand on a pirate ship. He writes the stories he wants to write in the way he wants to write them, and that's all he needs.
He currently lives in Montgomery, Alabama with his loved ones, friends, and systemic racism.
